What is BYOD? Role of IP PBX System in it.

BYOD refers to Bring Your Own Device which means employees have the freedom to bring their own computing devices such as smartphones, laptops and PDAs at work for use and connectivity on a secure corporate network.

In the case of VoIP, BYOD typically refers to the specific type of VoIP encryption or plan. That means employees with their own VoIP devices when signing up for VoIP services can make the best use of cheaper subscription plan through BYOD supported by most VoIP service providers. However, if service providers don’t support BYOD VoIP subscription plan then employees have to use the provider’s equipment instead of their own to make use of cheaper subscription.

BYOD concept particularly fits the IP PBX system for enterprises as it can encourages all the employees to bring their own device and get connected to the business phone network. This will result in huge savings for the enterprises as they no longer need to invest high on equipment. However, they need to frame clear cut BYOD security policy so that the network security is not compromised.
